Old Roommate Problem?

1 year after this dude moved out, my brother moved in, and I changed the electric bill into my name.
now all of a sudden I found that the old roommate owes $150 on his bill, and it’s now randomly being put on my bill 1 year later, now under my name. I didn’t know he didn’t pay it, and nothing showed for a whole year
The bill used to be under his name.
The old roommate is hidden off in the woods somewhere in Washington, how do I get out of this bill, that was under his name, that the charges were for.
Any suggestions?

You should not be responsible for an electric bill under your ex-roomate’s name. Your ex-roomate is responsible for it. You need to contact the electric company, and explain that this is not your bill, and not in your name. If they still insist that you are responsible, ask for a supervisor. I believe you can contact your local Ombudsman office for assistance if all else fails.
Good luck. Please let us know how it turns out.

You need to talk to the electrical company. Speak to a supervisor, tell them you have no connection to this person and have no obligation to pay his bill.
