Most people don’t realize the true importance of house chores before they first step into college. Suddenly Mom, Dad, and all your siblings are gone — there’s no one to cook for you, no one to wash for you, no one to clean the house for you, no one to take the trash out for you, and so much more. And yes, sure, you might have been doing chores such as these before you left home, but suddenly you’re the only around who has to do all that.

Living in a dormitory and eating at the cafeteria saves you from a bit of the trouble; you have a smaller area to keep clean and cafeteria food should keep you fed without being overly expensive. But dormitory rooms are limited and living with an annoying roommate can turn your college life into a ringside view of what hell could be like, and most people can’t stand cafeteria food for too long, either.

Sharing a flat with a few friends be a very fun and rewarding experience. With all the stresses of college life, knowing that you can go home to a place with people you get along with and who know you quite well is a great relief. And, of course, the burdens of keeping the place clean, paying for the rent and bills, and even keeping everyone fed can be divided between everyone living under the same roof.

When deciding to share a flat with your friends, make sure that you are familiar with the way they all live and conduct themselves in their own rooms. If your preferences are different you might find it difficult living with them. For example, if you like everything neat and tidy all the time, you might find it hard to live with friends who are messy and all over the place, and you might find yourself always being the one doing all the cleaning. If you do get along and have mutual respect for each other’s preferences, however, sharing flat with friends can have amazing benefits.

When sharing a flat, it is important that everyone contributes to everything. That means everyone needs to clean, cook, and whatever needs done around the house. It’s best to have a rotating table of chores, so no one gets stuck doing a chore they hate forever. Since you will all be students, cooking isn’t necessarily an important chore that needs doing, as you will probably decide to eat out instead, but when everybody gets together to cook something once in a while, it makes for a great bonding experience.

Contributions and sharing in the contributions should also extend to everything in the common areas. For example, no one friend should furnish the living room with all the furniture. Everyone has to contribute. Two people can pitch in for the sofa, another can provide for the chairs in the dining room, and so on. And while the person who contributed the items still has ownership of them, everyone should share. That means nobody should be a TV hog just because they own the TV.

Essentially, the shared flat can become a second home for everyone living in it. During exams, everyone can gather around for study sessions. You can invite friends over on big football game nights with not too much homework and no exams. You can even have a small party. And that’s the best part of sharing a flat through college, you have a measure of freedom.

Best of all, if you actually find a job in the same city after college, you can still stay at the same flat after college until you decide to live on your own. Some people may come and go, but at least you’ll still have a fantastic time with people who share your interests and your friendship!

Room sharing has never been more practical these days because of economically trying situations. With expenses going up every day, what better way to help one’s finances than to rent out your spare room for an extra roommate? That way, you would be able to ease out on your budget through the additional income that will come your way by renting out your spare room.
Room sharing may not be easy at first. But just like anything, it can also be easily adapted and grown used into. One just needs some time allowance to get used to the living set up. In addition, it doesn’t have to be done with someone whom you don’t know. In fact, you could start on looking for a roommate from your own circle of friends, be they a fellow student or a colleague in the office. Like you, they are also looking for ways to save up in a practical way. If, however you would find it impossible to find a roommate whom you already know, then the next step is to advertise your need for a roommate through the local papers or even online. You could still find someone whom you could live with because you would be able to interview them casually before sealing the deal. You would be able to gauge their personality and interests before both of you agree to become each other’s roommate.

The rent that would come your way could go a long way and could even cover your share of the house bills instead of taking it from your own wallet. Room sharing is therefore a practical way that could help one’s finances. Not only do you get an extra income for a room you no longer have any use for, you get someone to live with you.

Ever found yourself labeling your food on your own fridge? Or even hoarding them all to your side of the fridge? Weird as it may sound but this could also be a reality among those who are co-aboding in a house or flat. Patience and generosity seems to drain out even to the most patient and generous of person when it turns out that one’s flat mate consumes all your food and necessities in the kitchen. We would usually find ourselves cheated by our inconsiderate flat mates who did not even bother asking our permission when consuming the salad you have prepared for your lunch.

As much as you would want continue labeling your food on the fridge, why not consider food sharing? This could be a more wise and practical way to ease out on the problem. Start with confronting your flat mate regarding your concerns. Then list down the food that both of you like. That way, both of you would be able to prepare food that can be eaten by both of you. Next step is to cover the expenses and half it between the two of you. Not only is it clear as a glass but it is also fair and square. Food sharing is nothing really but a compromise between the two of you. By sharing the food expenses, you could also turn out sharing the whole meal together and who knows both of you could actually enjoy it too?
Food sharing benefits are not only for the wise and the practical but could also be beneficial personally and emotionally when you no longer have to worry about your room mate devouring all of your food and feeling like a thief in your own kitchen when you hoard them all for keeping. Food sharing is truly beneficial for your pocket as well as for your own peace of mind in the kitchen.

Food sharing can be a trivial task for people sharing a flat. Simple as it may sound, not everyone is up for it. This is partially because others think they can save more by having their own set of necessities in the kitchen rather than sharing it with someone whom you may not know. Well, this could also be true but when the grounds for differences be discussed, it could turn out beneficial for both parties saving them both of unnecessary expenses.
Food sharing can start with knowing what both parties use in the kitchen like oil, sugar and other common necessities. Calculate if possible what both parties use on average and from there, work it out. That way, there would only one kind of each seasoning or other necessities rather than two separate ones allowing both parties savings on both ends. In addition, it does not only allow economical savings but also allow savings on space and clutter in the kitchen. When you have the same two items, what good would it do when they are basically the same? Besides, for rare commodities like seasonings, one bottle would not be literally consumed in one cooking and could even take at least a month to be downed on until the very last drop.
So food sharing is definitely the in thing in the kitchen when flat sharing. That way both parties save economically and practically. The thing is just to work it out between the two of you and even take turns to buying the grocery or doing the cooking or the dishes. With this practice, all is played out quite fairly between the two of you whether it’s with the expenses or with the household chores. Food sharing is really beneficial for both ends as long as both parties work cooperatively with each other rather than against each other.

Home sharing or rather flat sharing is something I would have never considered until I was at a financially challenging situation. But even then, I had my doubts. I was not sure I would be willing to give up the privacy of my home with someone I barely know, who most probably would respond to my advertisement on the local paper or through the net. But because of the difficulty of my finances, I had to greatly consider it.
Like any other first time flat sharers, I had my doubts and apprehension regarding the whole set up. I was not practically an extrovert type of person. As I reviewed through a number of interested house mates, I was quite reluctant in making the decision of whom to choose. What if I chose the wrong one? As I was surfing through the internet, I came across iFlatShare.com. I browsed through their blog and was amazed at the number of varied topics they have. But they were practically very helpful in their topics like Tips and Steps on Finding a Roommate. Before long, I was actually enjoying the fact that I have a flat mate.
iFlatShare.com has also been very helpful with various other topics concerning how to keep abreast with flat mates. They know that finding a flat mate is not enough. But instead, one has to live with them for the duration of the contract or even longer when both parties tend to become adaptable with each other. But they can also be realistic in their knowledge that flat sharing is not all about a bed of roses situation. In fact, they fairly quip that annoyance is bound to happen even to the most patient of person. iFlatShare.com is truly an awesome blog that has helped a number of people when it comes to flat sharing. Their advices are not only deemed helpful but can actually be considered reliable and successful.

Sharing a flat with someone has never been more fun and practical when you do it with someone whom you have a lot of common interests. At first, it was not entirely easy with the number of adjustments we had to make. Not only are you going to share a house, but more importantly, you are going to share a home with which you both live in. After reading into iFlatShare.com, it has never been easier. iFlatShare.com shared a lot of insights for us flat sharers that could only be deemed trustworthy and successful.

At first, I was adamant in sharing my flat with anyone whom I think would not be worthy of my private space. But after considerable time and expense, I found out it would be more wise and practical to share my flat with someone. Of course, I would not only be sharing my flat, I would also save on my expenses as well as have someone share the household chores with. In addition, I would also be able to share my life with someone unlike when I’m all alone living in my flat. Eating my meals with someone truly made a difference.

iFlatShare.com eased me out of all my apprehensions regarding flat sharing. They have wonderful tips on how to go about sharing your flat with someone starting from those whom you thought you would have no grounds of common interests. They share insightful advices as well as tips on how to even evict a roommate or flat mate. My flat sharing with someone would have not been successful if I did not run through the various topics on their blog. Most importantly, iFlatShare.com opened my mind regarding the benefits of sharing a room or flat. But they have also been truthful enough in their suggestions that not all prospective roommates are good.

Purchasing something that is flattering alone. Meaning, something that is eye catching and yet something that does not even look good on you. There are only two types of clothes. Those that flatter you and those that don’t. Given the two choices, I suggest you pick the one that flatters you. Who wouldn’t anyway? You have to look at the mirror to see through yourself. Choose something that would greatly highlight your assets and mask those that should be hidden. Do not merely choose something because it is pretty or it is branded.

The idea of an outfit being pretty is much more seen when it is worn. A pretty wardrobe would always depend on the one who is totally working it out. Any wardrobe, no matter how good the matching of the colours, the sexy it looks or how costly it is can still be a total nightmare if the one who is wearing it do not even look good on it.

Shopping with friends. I know that there is nothing more enjoying in life than to shop with a whole bunch of friends to give you their ideas. But, it is a no-no. Having friends to contradict or agree with what you want when shopping will only result to you purchasing something that is less flattering and something that is unnecessary. So if you are to shop with friends make sure have already in mind what you want to buy plus you must bring discipline with you.

You can never tell whether a friend is competing with you. A competitive friend will just drag you into making regretful choices. And you do not want that to happen.

Power shopping without a list. Make sure you always have a list of whatever it is that you need to buy so you won’t end up buying less or buying more of what you actually need. More so, having a list beside you will help you keep on tract on the diminishing value of your purchasing power. It is either you increase or decrease the value you are supposed to meet.

Purchasing shoes because they look fabulous. There is nothing more worse than to purchase an uncomfortable to wear shoes because it merely looks fabulous. Your poise make or break your outfit. And since it is the totality of your outfit, anything that restricts you from your movements will be a great turn off. Much more when your shoes are uncomfortable to wear. Not only that it will affect your walk or your poise, it will also aggravate your feet’s situation.

Buying something unnecessary because of a fantastic sale. Not only that it will cost you money but also it will be a total waste of closet space. You must always remember that shopping is not merely about buying stuffs that are worth less but about buying stuffs that are worth less and at the same time useful to you. Wasting resources is a totally bad idea.

Coping with teenager’s moods and tantrums needs your patience and understanding, the same thing with getting them to clean and organize their rooms. Teenagers really values their privacy so you can’t just enter their rooms when they’re not around so what you can do is teach and show the proper way of organizing their room to avoid reminding them all the time. For starters, you must set an example by setting up rules and following them especially in the aspect of organizing. Show them that organizing their room will give them more free time for other kids’ activities and be less stressed when they know where to find everything.

Upon waking up, get them to make up their own bed and make sure that there are no blankets pillows or sheets on the floor scattered on the floor. You can buy shoe organizer for frequently worn shoes and keep shoes inside the box if they have done wearing them and arrange them on a stockpile so they will know where to get it when they need it.

Clothes always end up on the floor after every changing, so it is a great idea to get wide-mouth laundry hamper near the closet or dresser to keep dirty clothes off the floor. Before the basket gets too full, let them bring it to the laundry room for washing. Teach them how to hang and fold clothes in an organized fashion like arranging clothes by color or by type.

Homework should always be a priority before any other activities so set up a desk for homework. It must have a large work surface and proper lighting fixtures. Computer desk tables with a comfortable computer chair should be set up in the available computer space.

Put up shelves like bookcases or wall-mounted shelves for books, music equipment, CDs, videos, accessories, headphones and other musical device items. A filing cabinet to store school supplies and paper works will teach your kids on having an effective filing system early in life. Install a high shelf below the ceiling on one or more walls to store and display treasured family photos, trophies, small trinkets and collectibles or memorabilia.

Label and store out-of-season clothes on the top shelf or under the bed in plastic containers. Any clothing that hasn’t been worn in over a year should be donated. Set up hooks for belts and jackets on the back of the closet. Remind them to empty the bin or trash can daily to avoid clutter.

The most important part of teaching your teenager to organize his room is to ask his opinion on the things that he or she value most and let your teen choose the essential items he feels he really needs and about other items that he’s reluctant to let go of. But most of all cleaning and organizing your teen’s room will show him how much time and work it takes and keeping his room clean and organized will help him keep track of his things, will take less time doing it all over again, and most of all, he will grow up into a matured and responsible person.

Mount a full-length mirror on the back of the door. This will encourage the cherubs to keep the space behind the door clear and give them a place to check their appearance before entering the world.

Respect your teenagers’ privacy within the bounds of your house rules. If you promise not to enter their rooms when they’re not around, stick to your word.

This is the third part of the three part article entitled GETTING RID OF A FLATMATE, called the GETTING RID OF A FLATMATE PT.3, where you will know what the steps to take in getting rid of a roommate or a flatmate when he or she stops being a help you to and ends up as a nuisance or an annoying flatmate. Here are some of the tips that you could follow if you want to get rid of your annoying flatmate with a real nerve. In the second instalment of this series of articles, we have talked about the easiest and most direct way of informing that annoying flatmate or roommate of yours that you do not want to share food or anything with him or her. We have also talked about the things that you could do to make sure that he or she does not have a legal claim on your pad of flat, or else you will have more problems on your hands and a fuller plate of things to do instead of being rid of it.

Another thing that you could do to be rid of an annoying flatmate is to stop bringing food with you when you go home to your flat. This would really work especially if that roommate or flatmate of yours is not just annoying but is a glutton as well. If you do this, that roommate or flatmate of yours will realize that he or she cannot get anything from you anymore and that he or she would have to move on and find another roommate to live with. Who knows, maybe he or she could find a roommate that can tolerate him or her and can even end up liking him or her. Who knows?

If you have a very nice internet connection in your flat or if you are a subscriber to cable TV with 600 channels, you could also get rid of this, at least temporarily, as this might also be the reason why he or she loves hanging out and living in your flat. But you should know that the suspension is only temporary, you must make sure that he knows that the suspension is permanent, so that he or she will think of permanently leaving you and your pad or flat.

You might also want to cut back on cleaning the house for a bit. Your roommate does not have a boy or a cleaning lady in you, so he or she would have to pick up after himself or herself. If he or she still does not pick up after their selves, then you would have every reason to kick them out of the flat.

Another thing that you could do is to talk to him or her, and this would be the hardest to do, because you are going to have to be very honest with him or her. You would have to tell him or her what you really think and feel and start from that.
